Singapore Stock Market - Bottomed Out?

The Singapore stock market has been trending downwards now since February 2011. Will it continue to trend lower bearing in mind that the Singapore economy is a strong and growing economy? Your assessment is as good as mine. However this is my take. In recent months, the Singapore stock market has become a trading market. Its daily activities have been affected significantly since Singapore Stock Exchange installed its very high speed computer. Traders and punters trigger their decisions based on minutiae changes in their organisational in-house or personal technical charts and analysis reports. Operationally, the stock market has become a reactive market. The result is that most traders have lost money. So what should an investor (like me) do? THIS IS MY CURRENT MODUS OPERANDII: 1. I update myself the market behaviour reports throughout the day BUT I do not react to every tick of the Straits Times Index (STI). It just keeps me alert only. Why? I am, by practice: a. An investor but is sensitive to the technical behaviour of the market. b. I aim to be ahead of the market, in the short term, at least 3months ahead and, in the long term, (ie at least 2 years). Current operational practice 1. The market is still trending downwards, so I stay out of the market. I watch but do not buy; I may sell a few of my stocks to re-balance my portfolio. 2. I assess that the market will behave similarly until Chinese New Year. 3. Like a hawk, I monitor some "bashed up" blue chips and will buy them when it has been bashed up enough. On this point, I am watching Hutchinson Port Trust (HPT). To me it is the best proxy of the Chinese economy and indicator of China's external trade of all the China plays happening in the SGX daily. 4. I have been accumulating HPT and my purchase plan has been validated when in recent weeks a big investor has also been doing the same in the open market. 5. I will be doing the same with some other "bashed up" blue chips. What else have I been doing? If you have been reading my blog, you will know my current stance on gold. I have also been watching the Foreign Exchange. Currently, my favourite is the good old Aussie dollar. Been investing and playing it for the past 4 years. It has never failed to profit me. Thank you, the Aussie government and Aussie business community. I invite Comments on my personal commentary above.

GOLD

Gold price has been hovering around US$1600 per oz.
So what's next? Gold is still correcting. Do not buy until around US$1300- US$1400 which I expect will be the price in November 2011.

Re-located

I re-located yesterday to a new apartment.

I sense that my journey of life has arrived at a fork junction and I took the right road (I mean it - literally, figuratively and pun) to continue my journey of life.

A new set of challenges in a new life - henceforth I will face daily. With God's Assurance, Protection, Help and Direction - I know and am confident, and I will succeed in my endeavours until He calls me Home. And I will be a better human being and leave this world, Mothership Earth, a better home to all future generations of Mankind and all life-forms.

Thank you, God!

Mother Earth is in her death throes unless all of do something seriously every day of our lives!

Let us,all of us, do our bit, to restore the health of Mother Earth. Read "World is 'one poor harvest' from chaos, new book warns" by Lester Brown, a leading globalenvironmentalist, at:

Better still, read his latest book,"World on the Edge".
You can download it free-of-charge at www.earth-policy.org/books/wote.

We only have one mothership, Planet Earth, for all our future generations to live in.

Do your part daily and ask one friend every day to join in this battle of survival of the human race.

WikiLeaks!

Read these 2 articles on the present global debate on WikiLeaks:

1. The Case of Wikileaks, Part I—The Hacker’s Treehouse; http://gonzalolira.blogspot.com/2010/12/case-of-wikileaks-part-ithe-hackers.html
2. The New McCarthyism, The Real Terrorists—The Case of Wikileaks, Part II; http://gonzalolira.blogspot.com/2010/12/new-mccarthyism-real-terroriststhe-case.html

Interesting stuff to read and be challenged as to what and where modern Man is heading to.

Welcome to the New Brave New World! (Apologies to Aldous Huxley for using the title of his classic "Brave New World".)

Step aside Machiavelli, George Orwell and Aldous Huxley.

I am just wondering is Human Civilisation progressing forward to more freedoms of thought, speech and choice OR regressing into a new Dark Ages where the human being's (i.e. Homo Sapiens) life and future is no better than that of the slave during the Roman Period except for the privileged and endowed ruling and land-ownership class. ("Et tu, Brute!" Cited from Julius Ceasar by William Shakespeare.)
